ASTM Issues New ASTM F2178-17 Standard for Arc Flash Face Protective Devices offers Substantial Improvements

The new standard clarifies that the fabric in fabric based hoods can be the limiting factor in an arc rating.  While ArcWear’s arc flash testing has always assumed this, other labs have wondered.  This will keep hoods from being over-rated, a concern ArcWear has always addressed.

The other changes may not affect ratings but will clarify how to do the test and make the test and use of hoods, faceshields and balaclava/goggle units safer.
