ASTM F2733-21 Published – Minor Updates

ASTM F2733-21 has been published with only very minor updates.  This version ASTM F2733 Standard Specification for Flame-Resistant Rainwear for Protection Against Flame Hazards replaces the 2017 edition.  The updates are minor.

The primary update to this Standard was a terminology update.  The definition for the term “thermal protection” has been revised to match the same term used in other ASTM Standards.  There are also several other minor editorial changes.

Old Definition:

Thermal Protection, n – the property that characterizes the overall performance of a garment or protective clothing ensemble relative to its ability to reduce burn injury caused by heat transfer.

New Definition:

Thermal Protection, n – the property that characterizes the overall performance of a garment or protective clothing ensemble relative to how it retards thermal energy that is sufficient to cause a predicted second-degree or predicted third-degree burn injury.

The new edition does NOT change any test methods or any performance requirements.  Retesting of compliant FR rainwear is not required based on this update.
