ANSI/ISEA 105-2024 Updates

ANSI/ISEA 105-2024 edition is live and with new requirements in place. The most important updates you need to know:

1. Title of standard has been updated to include “Arm” protection (sleeves) to the former “hand only” protection scope.

2. NEW product marking details to standardize representation classification for key mechanical properties (cut; non-needle stick puncture; abrasion)

3. NEW requirement for manufacturers to demonstrate conformity with ANSI/ISEA 125 Conformity Assessment. Only Levels 2(A) & 3 require ISO 17025 accredited lab testing, and Level 2B requires an independent accredited lab. Level 3 also requires full Third Party Certification by an ISO 17065 body. End users should check the level of glove and arm protection certification.

4. NEW requirements to classify Conductive Heat Resistance Testing. Including burn and alarm time, ANSI/ISEA 105 now requires classification be at the temperature where there is no evidence of charring, ignition, melting, dripping, separation, and there is no shrinkage greater than 5%.

5. Dexterity and Vibration Reduction has been removed from the standard but are referenced in the appendix discussion on other factors for consideration

6. Updates to newer versions of test methods:
  • Coated Abrasion Resistance ASTM D3389-10 to ASTM D3389-16
  • CCHR ASTM F1060-08 to ASTM F1060-18
  • Flame Impingement ASTM F1358-08 to ASTM F1358-16
  • Hypodermic Needle Puncture Resistance ASTM F2878-10 to ASTM F2878-19
  • Cut Resistance ASTM F2992-15 to ASTM F2992-23
  • Puncture Resistance EN388:2003 to EN388:2016+A1:2018
  • Textile Abrasion Resistance ASTM D3884-09 (2013) to ASTM D3884-09 (2017)
