IEC 61482-1 Method B - Garments

Once the arc rating of the fabric used to construct the garment is established, a finished garment can be evaluated in an arc flash exposure as a design check using IEC 61482-1-1 Method B. Prior to testing, samples are laundered five times using ISO Method 6330. The product is exposed to an arc flash at approximately the incident energy level of the fabric rating. The fabric is checked for breakopen, afterflame, melting/dripping and shrinkage. The closures (zippers, buttons, snaps, hook and loop) are checked to make sure that they did not break open and are still operable. IEC 61482-1-1 Method B is required for CE marking of arc flash protective garments sold in the EU.
