ASTM F1002 Molten Metal Protective Clothing Testing

Used for primary and secondary clothing for protecting workers from molten substances including iron, steel, copper, nickel, aluminum, glass and other molten substances, ASTM F1002 Standard Performance Specification for Protective Clothing and Materials for Use by Workers Exposed to Specific Molten Substances and Related Thermal Hazards outlines minimum physical, flame and thermal and molten metal pour performance criteria for garments used by workers with a risk exposure to molten metal substances. The pour test should be specific to the molten substance since metals like aluminum and steel stick to different fabrics with different adhesion but the physical tests are considered applicable to all work clothing.

The flame resistance using D6413 and the molten metal pour testing using ASTM F955 are the most critical. Some users also like to have materials which comply with ASTM F1506 for electric arc protection and NFPA 2112 for flash fire protection.  These standards have many overlapping materials.
