ASTM D1117 - Tear Resistance

ASTM D1117 is the guide for selecting tests for non-woven materials is cited by ASTM F2733 and ASTM F1891 rainwear specifications. 

The guide directs users to select test method ASTM D5733 to determine tearing strength in the trapezoidal configuration. The method is performed on a tensile tester on a trapezoid shaped sample with a small cut added to evaluate the force required to continue the propagation of the tear. This uses the same test apparatus as ASTM D5034 but with a different attachment device and sample orientation.
